A wonderfully devoted Mom, Ruth Basta loved taking care of her family. Ruth always looked forward to the family get-togethers at her home, what ever the occasion. Several of her hobbies included sewing, reading, watching birds and wildlife, and gardening. For years, Ruth & her husband, Howard had a huge vegetable garden from which they taught all three of their daughters how to preserve and can produce. They especially enjoyed sending their three daughters, Barb, Trish, & Robin out to the garden to "weed". Ruth also enjoyed volunteering as the Girl Scout Troop leader for her girls as they were growing up in Schofield.
Ruth was born July 1, 1912 in Milwaukee to the late Adolph and Erna (Hassman) Mueller. Growing up in Milwaukee, she graduated from high school and worked several years at Harley-Davidson.
On June 13, 1944, Ruth married Howard in Milwaukee. Ruth was a stay-at-home mom until all of her girls started school. She was then employed with the D. C. Everest School District as the Secretary at Schofield Elementary School from 1961 until her retirement in 1976.
Ruth and Howie enjoyed camping when the kids were growing up, traveling with family and playing cards. At the age of 92, Ruth was still taking "girls" vacations to Florida with Trish and Robin. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At the age of 97, Ruth passed away on Friday, March 26, 2010 at Robin's home in Mosinee.
