Ruth Alice Newby, 81, Wausau, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.
Ruth was born February 23, 1927 in the Town of Rock in Wood County to the late Adolph and Alida (Anderson) Arneson. She married Gordon Russell Newby May 1, 1943 in Wisconsin Rapids. The couple spent 36 loving years together prior to Gordon’s death July 28, 1979.
Throughout her life, Ruth was always a very strong, independent woman and proud mother, grandmother, and later great-grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never wasted an opportunity to share what they were doing with those she met. Ruth would sing “You Are My Sunshine” to her granddaughters and later their children. In her free time, Ruth enjoyed gardening and possessed a true green thumb making even the most pitiful plant or flower bloom and flourish. During the past eight years of her life she went to the hospital for dialysis treatments, through it all her faith in God and family saw her through it. When her health prevented her from attending church, she faithfully listened to recorded sermons and read her bible on a daily basis.
Ruth is survived by her beloved daughter, Marla (Thomas) Steines of Mosinee; three granddaughters, Michelle (Ross) Klatt, Amy (David) Adams, and Angela (Scott) Baesemann; nine great-grandchildren, Ashley, Emily, Tristan, Bryce, Hannah, Eowyn, Seth, Logan, and Alivia; brother, Arne (Shirley) Arneson; and many extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by three brothers, Christian, Edwin, and Robert; and three sisters, Marie Schiller, Helen Spaulding, and Esther Kronstedt.
There will be a private family service with burial to follow in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wisconsin Rapids.
