Ruth Joyce Schmieden, 88, of Wausau passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018 at North Central Health Care, Wausau. She was born on December 31, 1929 in Wausau, to the late Albert and Olga (Pophal) Weber.
Ruth married Lylas K. Schmieden on May 26, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church in Wausau. Over the years Ruth worked for Franklin Savings and Loan, Wausau Homes, and then retired from the City of Wausau Treasures Office.
In her free time she enjoyed sewing and working on quilts with the Quilters Group at Zion Lutheran Church, and also enjoyed listening and dancing to Polka music. Ruth enjoyed following the Brewers,and Packers.
Ruth and her husband Lylas loved snowmobiling with family in the North Woods. They were among the founding members of the Trailmates Snowmobile Club of Wausau and enjoyed many special times with them. She was also an active member of the Pommerscher Verein Central Wisconsin club. Celebrating her German heritage.
Survivors include her son, Gary (Cindy) Schmieden, and grandson, Michael all of Oak Creek; brother-in-law David Walters of Harshaw, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Bernice Gums and Joan Walters and her brother, Victor Weber.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2018 at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau. Reverend Ted Gulhaugen will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
