Ruth Schmirler

March 11, 1926 — January 3, 2016

Ruth W. Schmirler, 89, of Kronenwetter, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016, at Wausau Manor, and was reunited with her husband, Clarence, whom she missed so much. She was born on March 11, 1926, in the town of Stettin to Frank and Emma (Barttelt) Weinke. On June 23, 1945, she married Clarence Schmirler at First English Lutheran Church, Wausau.

Together, Ruth and Clarence, owned and operated the Bee Hive Bar in Wausau and the Village Pump in Hatley. Ruth worked numerous jobs including the A&P Supermarket and later as a meat cutter at Sipple's Grocery Store.

Ruth was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. She enjoyed time at the lake home on Bearskin Lake with her family.

Survivors include her children, Kenneth (Kathy) Schmirler of Wausau and Jeanne (Gerald) Steidtman of Racine; sisters, Berdine Marquard of Kronenwetter and Deloris Bauman of Merrill; sisters-in-law, Esther Schmirler of Schofield and Valarie Matushak of Wausau; three grandchildren, John Steidtman of Waterford, David (Laura) Steidtman of Kenosha, and Eric Schmirler of Wausau; four great-grandchildren, Saxon Schmirler of Texas, Emma and Evan Steidtman of Kenosha, and Michael (Jennifer) Steidtman of Weyauwega; step-great-grandson, Justin (Tiffany) Malin of Neenah, two step-great-great-grandchildren, Madelynn and Mason Malin of Neenah; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Clarence; parents, Frank and Emma; and brothers and sisters, Edwin, Margaret, Ethel, Dora, Martin, Marie, Alvera, Walter, Mildred, Victor, Eunice, and William.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 6205 Alderson St., Weston, with Pastor Ray Connor officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow with committal prayers in the chapel at Restlawn Memorial Park, town of Texas. Musical selections at the church and cemetery will be provided by grandsons, John and David Steidtman, on the bagpipes.
