Ruth Slett

Ruth "Ruthie Van" L. Van Slett, 94, of Wausau, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Cedar Ridge Elder Care Services under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born November 18, 1918, in Wausau to Albert and Lisa (Meihawk) Kasten. She married Elmo Van Slett in Wausau on July 7, 1941. Ruthie was a beautician for many years, working out of her home, and also worked at Sears for 45 years, retiring at the age of 85. She met many people over the years working as a sales associate and then as a greeter.
Ruthie will be remembered as a very social person and liked to be around people. She could be found many days spending time on her front porch where people from the neighborhood would stop by and chat. She also liked to play cards and travel.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Judy Van Slett Brodjeski of Wausau; grandchildren, Rebecca Brodjeski (Jeff) of Wausau, Tina (Jeff) Hynes of Chicago, IL, and Sara (Fred) Cattelan of Ironwood, MI; great-grandchildren, Madison, Cooper, and Kendall Hynes; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo; parents; son, Thomas; brothers, Harold, Alvin, and Myron; and son-in-law, David Brodjeski.
A memorial service will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Family and friends may call beginning at 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
