Ruth Nancy Zastrow, 86, of Wausau, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Mt. View Care Center, Wausau.
She was born July 13, 1930, to Louis and Erna (Neumann) Zahrt in the town of Easton. Ruth attended St. John Lutheran School and graduated from Birnamwood High School. She married Leon Zastrow on June 19, 1954, in the town of Easton.
Ruth was a homemaker and loved to care for her family and friends. She will always be remembered as a fantastic cook and baker. Known as the "dessert lady," she baked caramel rolls, apple kuchen, buns, and bread that were all enjoyed by her family and numerous friends. She was a hard worker on the farm in the town of Wausau with her husband, Leon, and also worked for a time as a secretary at Birnamwood High School.
In addition to her work on the farm and caring for her family, she enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, sewing, annual sausage making, and dancing and listening to Polkas. Ruth was involved with her church, St. Stephen Lutheran. She participated in Dorcas Circle, quilting, ELCA Women, and helped with funeral lunches. She also helped with the Lions Club pancake breakfasts. It was always important to Ruth that she was able to spend time with her friends in the neighborhood, and they met monthly for coffee.
Survivors include her husband, Leon; children, Jerelyn (Bruce) Weinke, Dawn (Ronald) Felch, Mark (Leah) Zastrow, and Carla (Mike) Eberhardy; grandchildren, Noah Weinke, Amanda Felch, Melissa (Mike) Behnke, Matthew Zastrow, Luke Zastrow, and Raeanne Kruncos; and sisters, Beverly Zahrt and Shirley (DuWayne) Marquardt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Erna; and sister, Dolores Ninnemann.
