Sally Gartmann

April 9, 1953 — April 1, 2010

Sally Gartmann, 56, Town of Kronenwetter, went to her eternal home, after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, April 1st.

She was born in Wausau on April 9, 1953 to Betty Hoerter (Mathwick) and the late Wayne Wirt. On November 24, 1977 she married Stuart Gartmann.

At one time she was employed at Kolbe Millwork. Her most recent job was at Wausau Homes as the Marketing Services Manager and also Sales which she enjoyed.

Her volunteering was important to her and included Art’s Alive, The Susan G. Komen Board, Festival of Trees and The Water Street Gallery. One of her greatest joys was starting a Bible Study Group at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, meeting first at her home and them migrating to other women’s homes. She also was pleased with the Christian friendship that developed.

She enjoyed her crafting and her abilities in needle point, which included intricate work with Swedish designs on Huck toweling and card making. She also did intricate Iris paper folding and teabag folding which was part of her “Card Ministry” that she sent to comfort people in their discouragement.

Also, to help cancer patients feel more comfortable during their treatment, she worked through the bureaucracy and was successful in getting the treatment rooms repainted cheerfully and then had a professional artist to do landscaping on one wall of each unit. She also worked on other issues that she thought could be improved.

Sally is survived by her husband Stuart; sister, Lynnette (Richard) Simmons, Indianapolis, IN and her mother, Betty Hoerter of Wausau. Her step-siblings include Lyle (Judy) Hoerter, FL, Lon (Lucy) Hoerter, Wausau, Audrey (Randy) Oldenberg, Mosinee and Charlie (Jaynee) Hoerter, Wausau. She was also survived by two step-children Patrick (Sherri) Gartmann, IL, Susan Gartmann, Wausau; 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1901 Kowalski Road, Kronenwetter, WI 54455 on Wednesday, April 7 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Frank Conner will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. You may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com. Helke Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
