Selma E. Sokie, 99, of Weston, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Stoney River under the care of Interim Hospice Care. She was born to Robert and Ella (Henkelman) Kurth in the town of Hewitt on December 31, 1915. She married Louis Toth in the town of Easton on October 21, 1933, and together they had five children. Louis passed away in 1973. Later, Selma married Ernest Sokie in Cudahy on May 8, 1976.
Selma enjoyed her times outside especially hunting and fishing with her husband and family. She was deer hunting up until she was 75 with her husband and sons. The family loved their times together at Lake Tomahawk and Neshkoro. Selma also liked taking walks, reading, and embroidery. In addition to being a homemaker and raising her children, Selma worked at Wausau Laundry and while in Cudahy she worked at Purdy Meats.
Survivors include her children, Betty Lou (Ralph) Ghee, Louis (Cathy) Toth Jr., and Eugene Toth; brother, Adolph (Virginia) Kurth; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Geurink.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest Sokie and Louis Toth; parents, Robert and Ella; daughters, LaRaine Savin and Mary Ann Van Neil; grandson, Gregory; and sisters, Angela Reniff, Eleanor Wisnewski, Irma Kittle, Gertrude (Robert) Novitzke, Diana (Herbert) Beyer, Delores Geurink, and Ella (Albert) Doering.
A funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau, with Rev. Lance Hoelscher officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be Tuesday at Forest Hill Memorial Park, Oak Creek.
