Sylvia Stachovak

Sylvia (Wirt) Stachovak, Wausau, died quietly in her sleep on Monday, March 4, 2013. She was 98 years old. Sylvia was born the second of ten children of William and Rosa Ellen (Brown) Wirt on October 25, 1914, in Dewey, Illinois. She married Vincent Stachovak in 1937. Sylvia was a long-time member of St. Mary's Church and more recently had joined St. Michael's Parish. She was a member of Catholic Daughters and the Moose Club. Her many interests included reading, sewing, bowling, fishing, gardening, and writing poetry. She had a special love for children, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Bernice Thering, Barbara (Ken) Spencer, Lois Kuether, James (Ann) Stachoviak, Glen Stachovak (special friend Lois Carlson), and David (Carolyn) Stachovak; one brother, Carroll Wirt; brothers-in-law Cliff Pittsley and Clarence (Midge) Lenzen; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Wirt.
She is further survived by 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by the members of her rosary group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent; grandchildren, Brigette Stachoviak and Gary Thering; great-grandchildren, Michael and Daniel Stachoviak; sons-in-law, Dick Kuether and Al Thering; brothers, Denzil, Wayne, Earl, Royal, and Valmon Wirt; and sisters, Viola Pittsley, Adale Heidemann, and Azalia Lenzen.
Sylvia resided for the last seven years with her son, Jim and daughter-in-law, Annie. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank them for their wonderful care and for enriching her last years.
Funeral services will be held at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau, at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 16. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of service. A Mass to celebrate her life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
