Theodore “Ted” Tellekson, 94, peacefully passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017 at Rennes Health and Rehab.
Ted was born April 22, 1923 in Watertown, SD, to the late Theodore C. and Ruth (Buchholz) Tellekson Sr. He was baptized August 19, 1928 at Grace Lutheran Church, Watertown, SD and confirmed on March 21, 1937 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Oshkosh. On May 28, 1949 married Elaine Krueger at Trinity Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. In 1953, they moved to Wausau and have resided there ever since. They were married 66 years before her passing in 2016.
Ted served in the 8th Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945 and was stationed in England.
He worked for Monroe Business Systems for 40 years before retiring in 1985. Over Ted’s many years in Wausau, he served on the Wausau City Council and Marathon County Board and was the vice-chairman and chairman of the County Board. He was a proud member of Montgomery Plant Post #10 of the American Legion and the Lutheran Layman League. As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau, Ted served on many boards, as an elder and as president of the congregation.
Ted deeply loved his family and loved being with people and having a good conversation. There was not a single person that he could not sit down with and enjoy their company. In his free time, Ted enjoyed shopping, going to the casino, reading and pastoral visits.
Survivors include his two sons, Jim (Deb) of Wisconsin Rapids, Mike (Betty) of Weston, four grandchildren, Shawn (Jenny) Tellekson of Merrill, Jody (Jason) Butterfield of Weston, Kristin (Nick) Larsen of Waconia, MN and Jason Tellekson of Wisconsin Rapids, six great grandchildren, Hailey, Landon, Jordan, Keira, Kaylin and Brecken; sister, Margaret Ashworth of Rochester, MN; brother, Richard Tellekson of Ripon and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Merle and Robert; and sister, Jean Krueger.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 25, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 501 Stewart Ave., Wausau. Reverend Zach Holdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau and at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
