Verna I. Schlund, Town of Easton, passed away peacefully and went to her heavenly home Wednesday, June 12, 2013.
Verna was born in the Town of Easton on March 24, 1920 to the late August and Bertha (Neumann) Zahrt. She attended Dewy and St. John Lutheran School in the town of Easton. A lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Town of Easton, Verna was baptized, confirmed, and married Walter Schlund there on June 23, 1945. Walter and Verna farmed in the Town of Easton for thirty years until his death in 1979 and continued to live on the farm until her death. Verna was employed at the former Marathon Rubber Plant, North Central Health Care and Sunnyvale Infirmary.
Verna's life was centered on her love for her Lord and Savior, her family and her church family at St. John Lutheran Church. She was active in Bible Study, Choir, LWML, LLL, Ladies Aid and volunteered at Bethesda Thrift Shop. Devotions and reading her Bible were a daily part of her life. She also enjoyed gardening, especially her flower gardens, baking and teaching her granddaughters to bake, playing the organ, singing and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter Leila Lucero (Fiancé' Dennis Holbach) Schofield; Mark (Kathy) Schlund, Aniwa; and Steve (Kelly) Schlund of Wausau; grandchildren Lindsey Lucero, Mosinee; Maria (Adam) Budnik, Wausau; Scott(Monica) Schlund, Hatley; Tim (Raquel) Schlund, Kronenwetter; Rebekah Schlund, Wausau; great grandchildren Isabela and Emerson Peters, Mosinee; and Tristan Schlund, Hatley. She is further survived by her brother Merlin (Joan) Zahrt, Wausau and sisters-in-law Lorraine Zahrt, Majorie Zahrt, Audrey Zahrt; Felix Lucero and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband Walter, her siblings Wilbert Zahrt, Hertha Peters, Velma Runzheimer, Zelta Schlund, Lawrence Zahrt, Milton Zahrt and infant Arlett Zahrt.
Services will be at St. John Lutheran Church, E10723 County Rd Z, Town of Easton on Saturday, June 15th at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. up to the time of services. Rev. Mark Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery immediately following the services. You may sign our family guest book at Helke.com. The family will like to thank the staff of Aspirus Hospice Services, especially Rachel for all the care, visits and kindness provided to Mom and all of our family in her final journey.
