Verna H. Thompson, 95, Wausau, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born in Wausau on May 15, 1917, to the late Louis and Grace (Johnston) Hildebrandt. Verna married Raymond Thompson on December 2, 1939, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wausau; together they celebrated almost 60 years of marriage, until the time of his death in 1999. They raised their two children in the Wausau area.
Verna was mostly a quiet lady that kept to herself, but she was also a loving, caring and kind person, and often showed that to anyone whom she met. Verna enjoyed sewing and doing needlework. She also liked to read lots of books, and do crosswords. Verna was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wausau, and always enjoyed the company of her fellow members.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Gary (Jan) Thompson, Greenfield, WI; four grandchildren, Amy (Bill) Kolb, Gwen (Lanny) Betterman, Connie Prahl, and Chistopher ( Stacey) Smart; seven great-grandchildren, Rachel and Connor Kolb, Samantha, Jordan and Lucas Betterman, Felicity and Elijah Smart; and many nieces and nephews.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Marylyn Prahl, her sister, Ione O'Connor; two brothers, Roland and Ray Hildebrandt; and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Thompson.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wausau. Pastor Sean Motley will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, following the service.
