Vernon "Butch" Feck was born December 13, 1920 in Wausau, son of the late Otto and Anna (Block) Feck. Butch served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific. He entered the service in August 1942 and was discharged October 12, 1945. One year later on October 12, 1946, Butch married Regine Paulson at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Wausau. Butch was very proud of his years in the service and loved telling stories about his experiences. He was wounded in February 1945 in the Philippines and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After his discharge, he did accounting work at various firms until retirement. Butch was a lifetime member of VFW Burns Post #388, Disabled American Veterans and the Last Man's Club. To honor Butch, his family had a Legacy Stone placed at the High Ground in Neillsville on September 11, 2004.
His lifelong love of sports included playing baseball in the Valley League, pitching fast pitch softball, playing handball and bowling. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Butch also enjoyed watching all sports on TV.
At the age of 91, Butch passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Regine of Wausau, daughter, Vicki (Paul) Dickinson of Weston, son, Todd Feck of Wausau and two grandchildren, Justin and Cassandra Feck. Butch was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Jay Feck, three brothers, Raymond, Melvin, and Arthur Feck and two half-brothers, Harry and Lawrence Brennan.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau with full military honors to follow. Reverend David Faulkner will officiate.
