Vernon Krueger

Vernon "Mike" C. Krueger, 80, Marathon, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Ministry St. Clare's Hospital in Weston.

Vern was born on March 8, 1934 to the late Carl and Erna (Giese) Krueger in Wausau, WI. Vern married Alice Brandenburg and started a family. They later divorced and Vern cared for his four young daughters. Vern owned and operated Club 29 for 18 years until 1990 when it closed due to the change in the highway. Then Vern worked for Streich Equipment until his retirement.

On June 30, 1974 Vern married his second wife, Nancy Loy Prechel, and they built their home in Marathon in the town of Stettin, where he continued to live following Nancy's death on September 24, 1994.

Vern loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, making firewood and helping his family on the farm. He also enjoyed playing cards and going out with family for a fish fry.

Vern is survived by his four children, Faith (Matt) Gokey, Wausau, Peggy (Peter) Romanowski Wausau, Laurie (Todd) Smith, Marathon, and Patti (Jeff) Drasher, Wausau, five step children, Vicki (Bill) Kohn, Mosinee, Terry (Jennifer) Prechel, Mosinee, Bobbie Prechel, Marathon, Julie (Richard) Davis, Weston and David (Julie "Wally") Prechel, Wausau, 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, one brother-in-law Arnie Luechau and two sisters-in-law Betty and Helen Krueger.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, two brothers Ellsworth and Leroy Krueger and a sister Janet Luechau.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1008 N 120th Ave Wausau, WI with Pastor Phil Bogen officiating. Burial will be in Stettin Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Helke Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
A memorial fund is being established.
