Vernon Sommerfeldt

Vernon Edward Sommerfeldt, 74, of Wausau passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Wausau Manor.
He was born February 13, 1939 in Wausau to the late Harold and Hermindina "Tina" (Bloedel) Sommerfeldt. On June 24, 1961, Vernon married Marlene Utecht at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. He worked as an auto mechanic at Gritzmacher's Truck and Auto. For several years following his retirement, Vernon drove for Harold's Charter Service and thoroughly enjoyed conversing with all his passengers.
He was a kind and generous man who worked hard to care for his family while always finding time to help others. Vernon was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he ushered and drove elderly members to Sunday worship services. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing pool, Sheepshead and riding his Harley. Vernon was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association and the Rib Mountain Riders motorcycle club.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Wausau, seven children, June (Curt) Cook of Monee, IL, Harold (Kathy) Sommerfeldt of Leavenworth, KS, Keith Sommerfeldt of Wausau, Barbara (Geoffry) Penn of Neenah, Vernon "Skip" Sommerfeldt of Appleton, Scott (Dr. Amanda) Sommerfeldt of Cedar Rapids, IA, Nancy Sommerfeldt of Wausau, eleven grandchildren, Andrea, Joshua, Nathaniel, Devon, Lauren, Zach, Teara, Allysa, Jonathan, Cameron, Liam, one great grandson, Drake, five sisters, Jean Gehrke of Wausau, Shirley (Corky) Nowak of Wausau, Nancy Manowski of Wausau, Lois (Bob) Ruether of Schofield, Leta (Tom) Klumpyan of Mosinee and one brother, Harold "Buzz" Sommerfeldt of Janesville. He was further preceded in death by his sister, Betty Viergutz and two brothers-in-law, Wally Gehrke and Mike Manowski.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2013 at Memorial Chapel Mausoleum at Restlawn Memorial Park. Reverend Gary Schultz will officiate. Visitation will be at the mausoleum on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
