Victor Behring

Victor William Behring died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, June 27, 2015. He was born June 24, 1927 in Wausau Wisconsin to the late Carl William Behring and Marie Augusta (Eggert) Behring. On June 10, 1950 Victor married Violette Klawinski at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. They made their home in Rib Mountain raising three children, Ron, Ken, and Debra. Victor worked in a bakery and lumberyard. At age seventeen, in 1944 he joined the US Navy. He served on the battleship USS Hale operating in the Pacific Area. Victor was honorably discharged in 1948. He was a member of VFW Burns Post #388, Wausau.

He worked at a local window manufacturer known as Crestline Window Manufacturing. Victor finished his working career as a Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker working for various shops in the Wausau area retiring in 1989.

Victor enjoyed camping and spending time at their North Lake Nokomis cottage. Making firewood was one of his specialties. He loved giving tractor rides to his grandchildren to swimming beach on the lake. Among his many passions he enjoyed making crafts of all sorts especially crafts made from wood with decorative birdhouses his favorites. He also carved birds, did nature paintings and many other crafts. Victor also used his many talents as a volunteer at Holy Name of Jesus Grade School and church. He was able to put his sheet metal expertise to use in the kitchen at the school. He helped with updating the classroom lighting and lavatory sinks in the school and painting projects. He was affectionately known as the "Ice Cream Man" by all the Holy Name kids because of his regular school visits providing ice cream sundaes for the entire school.

Survivors include two sons, Ron and Ken, daughter, Debra (Wally) Legenza all of Rib Mountain, four granddaughters, Amber (Tyler) Sopata of Wausau, Sara (Kyle) Matushak of Wausau, Brittney (Sam) Reiter of Eau Claire and Maria Legenza of Wausau, three great grandchildren, Charlotte Matushak, James Reiter, and Tessa Sopata, one sister, Adeline Langenfeld of Plymouth, sister-in-law, Gladys Behring of Milwaukee and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Victor was further preceded in death by his wife, Violette, two brothers Raymond (Ella) Behring, Carl F. Behring, sister Eleanor (Walter) Neubauer Helling and brother-in-law-Clarence Langenfeld.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2015 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 1104 S. 9th Ave., Wausau. Father Gerald Pehler will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services with a parish rosary prayed at 10:40 a.m. Military rites will be conducted at church immediately following services by VFW Burns Post #388.

Grandpa was the sweetest, kindest, most hardworking, funny, honest, creative, generous and faithful man. He will be sadly missed.
