Virginia Soukup, 84, Schofield, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Schofield.
Virginia Mae Gotchy was born March 22, 1925 in Wausau to the late Frank and Margaret (Hartson) Gotchy. She married Harold Soukup on May 1, 1947 in Ventrua, CA. Virginia and Harold celebrated 28 wonderful years together prior to his death, August 3, 1975.
Virginia accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and was a very devout Christian throughout her life. She worked hard throughout her life, first in food service with her kids’ schools then with Fiskars and in her 80’s with the deli at the Schofield IGA. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. When her children were young, every year brought a summer trip up north to spend time together. In her free time, Virginia liked to work on crosswords, play cards and spend time with her many friends. Her sense of hard work and Christian duty led her to care for both her husband, Harold and her son, Mike at home until their deaths while still working outside of the home.
Virginia is survived by her children, Kris Soukup of Green Bay, Pat (Kathy) Soukup of Madison and Jeff (Deb Dewitt) Soukup of Schofield; daughter-in-law, LaDonna Soukup of Schofield; 13 Grandchildren; 12 Great-Grandchildren; a Great-Great-Granddaughter; brother, Jim (Sarah) Gotchy of Virginia; sister-in-law, Thelma Gotchy of Schofield; friend, Sue Klingbile; and many more extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her sons, Bob and Mike; great-granddaughter, brother, Phillip Gotchy; sisters, Eva Powell, Doris Stubbe, Margaret Hettinga; and lifelong best friend, Athelene Sickler.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Reverend John Payne will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home and last until the time of services at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow the memorial service at Restlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family who will be making a charitable donation in Virginia’s name at a later date.
