Wallace "Wally" Heahlke, 87, of Wausau, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at his Applegate Terrace residence in Wausau. He was born on February 11, 1927, in the town of Berlin, to the late Gustav and Ella (Schmidt) Heahlke. He married Marion (Voigt) Heahlke on September 5, 1947, in the town of Hamburg.
Wally was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Europe during World War II. He worked as a truck driver for Steffke Freight Co. and Foreway Express prior to his retirement, and was a member of Teamsters Local 622. Wally was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors. After his retirement he became a skilled trap shooter. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Wausau.
He is survived by his wife, Marion of Wausau; son, Howard (Susan) Heahlke of Bozeman, Montana; two daughters, Irene (Gary) Peters and Joan Heahlke, both of Wausau; son-in-law, Don Schultz; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Wally was preceded in death by his daughter, Alyce Schultz; parents, Gustav and Ella; three brothers, Clarence, Harold, and Lawrence; and one sister, Eleanor Berna.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014, at First English Lutheran Church, 402 N. Third Ave., Wausau, with Rev. Erik Olson officiating. Family and friends may call on Thursday, May 1, beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, and again at the church on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, town of Texas, with military honors provided by V.F.W. Burns Post #388.
