Walter E. Stomski, 91, Ringle, died peacefully Saturday evening, May 29th, on the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born to the late Frank and Anna Stomski on November 8, 1918, in the township of Knowlton. Walter had 4 sisters and 1 brother. Walter served his country from February 1939 to October 1945, as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry, 222nd Regiment, 42nd Division, 7th Army. In November 1944, in Wagner, OK, Walter married Jean McGilbray, who preceded him in death on June 10, 1995. Together they raised 3 children, two of whom also preceded him in death, Terry Stomski and Kenneth Stomski.
Walter enjoyed a 30 year career at Weyerhaeuser, of Rothschild, before he retired to appreciate life through outdoor activities, baseball, and getting to know his little grand-niece, Raina Ceaough. Walter was an avid reader, expressed a keen interest in current events, and remained true to his life’s passions; he hadn’t missed a Friday fish-fry in 50 years. His dry wit continues to delight his family beyond his passing, and he is missed.
Walter is survived by his daughter, Evelyn (William) Keaough, Ringle; 4 grandchildren, Demian Keaough, Ringle, Anthony Stomski, Minneapolis, MN, Jessica Stomski-Seim, Stillwater, MN and Theresa DeNike, Kent, WA; 2 great-grandchildren; and sister, Louise Dvorscak, Mosinee.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Restlawn Memorial Park, in the Veterans’ section.
