Wayne Wolfgram

February 2, 1940 — January 2, 2017

Wayne Aaron Wolfgram, 76, of Wausau, beloved husband of Patricia, passed away on January 2, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital with his wife by his side. He was born February 2, 1940, to Aaron and Evelyn (Walther) Wolfgram and grew up in Jefferson, Wisconsin. He graduated Jefferson High School in 1958, University of Wisconsin – Whitewater in 1962, and earned his Masters at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1966.

On August 11, 1962, Wayne was united in marriage to Patricia Barry in Fort Atkinson. That same year, they moved to Wausau, where Wayne began teaching in the Wausau School District. For 37 years, he guided the mathematical minds of students at John Muir Middle School, Wausau High School, and spent the majority of his career as Math Department Head at Wausau West High School. He retired in 1999 and lived life to the fullest by helping others, caring for his lawn and garden, attending St. Louis Cardinals games, snow-birding, taking several once-in-a-lifetime trips, and spending summer and winter breaks with his grandson, Quinn.

Wayne was a member of the Golden Kiwanis, Chairman of the Board at the Educators Credit Union, member of the Marathon County Educators Association, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and delivered mobile meals to those in need. Wayne and Pat were passionate Bridge players who also enjoyed casual card games with family and friends. Math truly was fun for Wayne, with numerous puzzles, puzzle books, and math books occupying his idle time. One of his favorite routines was the Tuesday morning breakfast at the Blue Willow with his friends in the retired Wausau West teacher group.

Wayne is survived by his wife Patricia; his daughter Dana, son-in-law Matt Davies and their son Quinn of Ballwin, Missouri; and his son Barry (Holly) and grandchildren Katie and Conor of Marshfield. Wayne is also survived by his sister Sally Sexton of Fort Atkinson; sister-in-law Connie Cashmer of Warsaw, Indiana; brother-in-law Alan Barry of Brodhead WI; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a great-great nephew. He is also survived by his Wausau family of 50 years Dennis and Laurayne Nicoliasen, Kappy Stetzer Molling, Dennis and Gail Krieg, and Gary and Jane Hauboldt.

He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Garrett and Ethel Barry; great nephew Anthony Garrett Barry; and close personal friend Ken Stetzer.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon on Friday, January 6, 2017 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 221 S. 28th Ave., Wausau. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
