Weldon S. Swanson, 79, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at his home.
He was born on March 7, 1945 to the late Eugene and Clara (Babler) Swanson. He grew up in Hogarty, Wisconsin. He married Shirley A. Umland on September 17, 1966. They lived in the Wausau area until Shirley's passing on May 30, 2020.
Over the years Weldon drove truck for various companies, including Green Bay Packaging in Wausau. He eventually became a forklift driver and retired from Green Bay Packaging after working there for over 40 years. Weldon enjoyed hunting, fishing and following the Milwaukee Brewers. He watched or listened to every game.
Weldon touched many lives and he was known for his gift of gab. He seemed to know someone everywhere he went and if he didn't he would know someone before he left. Weldon's greatest joy was his family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He rarely missed any activity they were involved in and anytime they needed a ride or help Grandpa was always there to answer the call. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Weldon is survived by his children, Kurt (Doedie) Swanson and Sherry (Bruce) Watson; five grandchildren, Kaylee (Ben) Graefe, Heather Swanson, Derrick (Miranda) Bogan, Mitchell Swanson and Megan Leitza; one great-grandchild, Braelynn Swanson-Lee; his sister, Dolores Diestler; his brothers and sisters in-law; Sharon & Bill Hunter, Ron Umland and Joyce Umland; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley; brother, Farrell (Darlene) Swanson; sister, Viola (Tom) Thorson; brothers-in-law, Lester Umland and Dick Diestler; and nephew, Tom Umland.
