Wilfred Erdmann

October 18, 1921 — January 5, 2010

“May the work I’ve done speak for me” encompasses the person Wilfred was in life. He always set the bar high and accomplished his goals through hard work and the mindset of treating others how he would want them to treat him. Wilfred will be remembered as a gentle and fair man, whose positive attitude helped him to achieve much in life.

Wilfred was born October 18, 1921, the son of the late August and Clara (Seehafer) Erdmann. After finishing 8th grade at the Rib View School in the town of Stettin, he worked in the lumber and paper mill industries before taking over the family dairy farm from his father. On February 27, 1943 he was united in marriage to Iris Urban and together they raised their two children, Larry and Sharon, and worked together on the farm, enjoying 65 years of marriage. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and also found time to serve as secretary and treasurer of Stettin Christian Cemetery. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the occasional game of dart ball.

The time spent with his family this last Christmas season, especially the Christmas Eve service at Trinity Evangelical, was very special to Wilfred and the memories spent with him will remain in the hearts of his family for years to come.

Wilfred A. Erdmann, 88, Wausau, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at his home. He will be sadly missed by his family, including his son, Larry (Karen) Erdmann, Wausau; daughter, Sharon (Jerry Smith) Beste, Grafton; four grandchildren, Jared (Melissa) Erdmann, Oshkosh, Joshua Erdmann, Los Angeles, Aricka (Rick) Knox, Cedarburg, and Melissa Beste, New York City; 4 great-grandchildren, Taylor and Carter Erdmann, and Patrick and Ella Knox; and one sister-in-law, Mary Urban, Merrill. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Iris, in 2008; and brother-in-law, Edwin Urban.

The family would like to thank everyone at Harmony at Terrace Court, in Wausau, for the care given to Wilfred and for making it feel like home for him.
