Willis Dekkenga, 92, passed away on Wednesday, February 12th 2014, at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.
Willis was born January 1st 1922, the son of the late John and Allie (Langstraat) Dekkenga, in Boyden, IA. He served his country during World War II, in the U.S. Army, from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in England during that time as a PE Instructor. On September 20th 1945, he was united in marriage to Sebena Meyer, in Everly, IA. She preceded him in death on February 21st 1996.
At various times, Willis was a farmer, carpenter, and truck driver. At the time of his death, Willis was retired from Kolbe & Kolbe, where he had been a service representative. In his spare time he enjoyed crafting small furniture items in his workshop. Most of those were sold through The Talent Shop, in Wausau.
He is survived by his daughter, Joyce (Gene) Haskins, Ogema; son, Dan (Sandy), Schofield; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters; two brothers; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16th, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Interment will follow on Monday, February 17th, at 10 a.m., in Hillside Cemetery, Ogema. Pastor Rodney Price will officiate the graveside service.
